Energized and Ready for What's Next

The new school year is upon us, which is both exciting and scary under the current circumstances. While ANC 1C took a quick break from official meetings, like many in Adams Morgan I stayed very busy to close out summer 2021 and prepare for the important months ahead.

The last Saturday of August 2021 was busy, as I attended both the March on for Voting Rights and Make Good Trouble Rally

Here is a summary for August, a look at what is scheduled for September 2021, our resident + business in focus, and this month's video briefing.

WHAT WE DID

  • ANC 1C took a recess from official meetings, including committees

  • Helped residents in neighboring Mount Pleasant fill out STAY DC applications for rent assistance; if you or anyone you know could use help with this, please contact me right away

  • Wrote & published an editorial piece in the Washington Post on the opportunities & barriers for ANCs to fairly serve the community

  • DPR announced Walter Pierce Park's athletic field will be made open for public use; I wrote the first draft of the resolution leading to this, so it's great to see our effort worked!

  • Submitted comments on why Upper Beach Drive in Rock Creek Park should stay closed to cars

  • Co-signed letter to DC authorities on how encampment evictions only worsen our housing crisis

  • Began volunteering to organize the October 23 Out of the Darkness Walk for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention; sign up to join here, and let me know of any businesses that might want to be an official sponsor

WHAT'S UP NEXT

  • September 1: ANC 1C general meeting (agenda here, link to attend here)

  • September 11: The Washington Area Bicyclist Association is hosting its annual 50 States Ride; let me know if you plan on riding too!

  • September 12: Adams Morgan Day! This year the event will be both in-person and virtual
